Coach & Club Licence Terms | Chess Cheat Sheets

These Coach Licence Terms apply to Coach, Club, Commercial and other professional licences purchased from Chess Cheat Sheets.

By purchasing or using a Coach Licence, you agree to the terms below.

1. What you are purchasing

A Coach Licence gives you permission to use selected Chess Cheat Sheets materials as part of your chess coaching or teaching activities and to provide those materials to the students covered by your licence.

You are not purchasing ownership of the underlying materials or intellectual property.

All intellectual property rights in the materials remain the property of Chess Cheat Sheets and/or its licensors.

Your licence gives you specific permissions to use and distribute the materials within the limits of the licence you have purchased.

2. Licence holder

The Coach Licence is granted to the individual, coach, club, school or organisation named at the time of purchase.

The licence is non-transferable unless otherwise agreed in writing by Chess Cheat Sheets.

A Coach Licence purchased by an individual coach is intended for use by that coach in connection with their own coaching activities.

It does not automatically grant another coach, business, club or organisation permission to use or distribute the materials.

3. Permitted use

During the licence period, you may:

  • Use the licensed materials when teaching or coaching chess.

  • Provide licensed materials to your students for educational and chess-training purposes.

  • Give students digital copies of permitted materials.

  • Print copies of permitted materials for your students.

  • Use the materials as homework or supplementary training.

  • Use the materials during individual or group coaching sessions.

  • Allow your students to retain copies provided to them for their own personal chess training, subject to the terms of their personal use.

The number of students you may provide the materials to is determined by the licence tier purchased.

4. Student limit

Your Coach Licence permits you to provide the licensed materials to the number of active students specified by your licence.

For example, if you purchase a licence permitting use with up to 25 students, you may provide the materials to up to 25 active students at any one time.

Students do not need to purchase an additional individual licence when they receive the materials from a coach operating under a valid Coach Licence.

If you exceed the student limit associated with your licence, you must upgrade to an appropriate licence tier before providing the materials to additional students.

You are responsible for ensuring that your use of the materials remains within the student limit associated with your licence.

5. What you may not do

Your Coach Licence does not permit you to:

  • Resell the licensed materials as a standalone product.

  • Sell or charge students separately for access to the materials themselves.

  • Give the materials to people who are not covered by your licence.

  • Upload the materials to publicly accessible websites or file-sharing services.

  • Post the materials, or substantial portions of them, publicly on social media, forums, Discord servers or other platforms.

  • Share the materials with other coaches who are not covered by your licence.

  • Sublicence or transfer your rights to another coach, club, school or organisation.

  • Allow another business or organisation to use your licence.

  • Remove copyright notices, attribution or ownership information.

  • Claim the underlying materials, puzzles, training systems or other intellectual property as your own.

  • Repackage, reproduce or modify the materials to create a competing product.

  • Use the materials to create or sell another commercial training programme without written permission from Chess Cheat Sheets.

Your licence is intended to allow you to use the materials as part of your coaching service, not to turn the materials themselves into a product that you sell or redistribute independently.

6. Coaching staff and assistants

Unless your specific licence states otherwise, an individual Coach Licence is intended for the named coach.

If you operate a club, school or coaching organisation with multiple coaches or instructors who need access to the materials, you should purchase an appropriate Club or Organisation Licence or contact Chess Cheat Sheets to discuss your requirements.

You must not share an individual coach's licensed materials with other coaches simply because they work for, contract with or are associated with you.

7. Student use

Students who receive materials from you under a valid Coach Licence may use those materials for their own personal chess training.

They may not:

  • Redistribute the materials to other people.

  • Upload the materials publicly.

  • Resell the materials.

  • Provide the materials to other coaches, clubs or organisations.

  • Claim ownership of the materials.

As the licence holder, you should take reasonable steps to make your students aware that the materials are licensed resources and should not be redistributed.

8. Branding and attribution

Unless you have purchased a specific white-label or branded licence, the Chess Cheat Sheets branding, copyright notices and attribution contained within the materials must remain intact.

You may not remove or replace Chess Cheat Sheets branding or copyright notices.

If you would like the materials to be branded with your own name, logo or organisation, please contact Chess Cheat Sheets regarding a Branded or White-Label Licence.

9. Licence duration

Your Coach Licence is valid for the period specified at the time of purchase.

Unless otherwise stated, Coach Licences are granted for a fixed period of 12 months from the date of purchase.

At the end of the licence period, you may no longer distribute the licensed materials to new students unless you renew your licence.

Students who previously received materials during a valid licence period may continue using those materials for their own personal chess training, but the licence holder may not provide those materials to additional students after the licence has expired.

10. Updates and additional materials

A Coach Licence provides access to the materials specified as part of the licence at the time of purchase.

Chess Cheat Sheets may occasionally update, improve, replace or expand its products.

Unless explicitly stated otherwise, a Coach Licence does not guarantee access to every future product or resource created by Chess Cheat Sheets.

Additional products, training packs or resources may be made available separately.

11. Intellectual property

All intellectual property rights in the licensed materials remain with Chess Cheat Sheets and/or its licensors.

This includes, where applicable:

  • Written content

  • Chess puzzles and exercises

  • Training programmes and structures

  • PDFs and workbooks

  • Interactive applications

  • Graphics and illustrations

  • Solutions and explanations

  • PGN files

  • Templates

  • Progress-tracking systems

  • Branding and logos

  • Other proprietary materials

Your Coach Licence grants you permission to use and distribute the materials only in accordance with these terms.

It does not transfer copyright, ownership or any other intellectual property rights to you.

12. Licence compliance

You are responsible for ensuring that your use of the materials complies with the terms of your licence.

If Chess Cheat Sheets reasonably believes that licensed materials are being used or distributed outside the scope of the licence, we may contact you to request clarification or ask you to stop the unauthorised use.

Where appropriate, we may offer an upgrade or alternative licence that permits the intended use.

13. Breach of licence

If you knowingly use or distribute the materials outside the permissions granted by your licence, Chess Cheat Sheets may require you to cease the unauthorised use or distribution.

Serious or repeated breaches may result in termination of your licence and may lead to further action to protect Chess Cheat Sheets' intellectual property rights.

Termination or expiry of your licence does not transfer ownership of the materials to you and does not permit continued distribution outside the rights granted by this agreement.

14. Upgrading your licence

If your coaching activities grow and you need to provide the materials to additional students, coaches or organisations, you can upgrade to an appropriate licence tier.

Please contact Chess Cheat Sheets if you are unsure which licence is appropriate for your circumstances.

15. Questions about your licence

If you are unsure whether a particular use is permitted by your licence, please contact Chess Cheat Sheets before distributing or using the materials in that way.

We are happy to clarify the permitted use of your licence and help you find an appropriate licence if your requirements fall outside its scope.
