Single User Licence Terms | Chess Cheat Sheets

These Single User Licence Terms apply to any and all digital products purchased from Chess Cheat Sheets (chesscheatsheets.com) unless otherwise stated. All items are purchased for personal use unless otherwise stated or discussed.

By purchasing or accessing a product covered by these terms, you agree to the licence conditions below.

1. What you are purchasing

When you purchase a Chess Cheat Sheets product, you are purchasing access to the digital materials and a perpetual, non-exclusive, non-transferable licence to use those materials for your own personal chess training and improvement.

Your purchase does not transfer ownership of the underlying copyright or intellectual property to you. All intellectual property rights in the materials remain the property of Chess Cheat Sheets and/or its licensors.

2. Your personal licence

Your Single User Licence allows you to:

  • Download the purchased materials for your personal use.

  • Access and use the materials on your own devices.

  • Use the materials as many times as you wish.

  • Print the materials for your own personal use.

  • Make reasonable backup copies for your own personal use.

  • Use the materials offline where the product format permits it.

  • Keep and use the purchased materials indefinitely, subject to these terms.

There is no limit to how many times you may use the materials. The "single user" restriction relates to who may use the materials, not how often you may use them or how many devices you use them on.

3. What you may not do

Your Single User Licence does not permit you to:

  • Give, lend, sell or otherwise distribute the materials to other people.

  • Share your purchased files with friends, students, colleagues, clubs, teams or other groups.

  • Upload the materials, or any substantial part of them, to websites, file-sharing services, forums, social media, Discord servers, messaging groups or other publicly or privately accessible platforms.

  • Resell or commercially redistribute the materials.

  • Sublicence, assign or transfer your licence to another person.

  • Repackage, reproduce or modify the materials for the purpose of creating or selling another product.

  • Remove copyright notices, attribution or other ownership information from the materials.

  • Represent the materials, or any substantial part of them, as your own work.

  • Use a personal purchase to provide training materials to students or other customers as part of a coaching, teaching or commercial service.

In particular, a personal purchase does not give you permission to distribute the materials to students. If you are a chess coach, club, school or other organisation and wish to use the materials with multiple students, please contact Chess Cheat Sheets (info@chesscheatsheets.com) regarding an appropriate Coach or Commercial Licence.

4. Sharing with members of your household

We understand that chess is often a shared hobby within a household.

You may allow members of your immediate household to view or use the materials with you for personal, non-commercial purposes.

However, the materials must not be distributed outside your household or used as part of someone else's coaching, teaching or commercial activities.

5. Your licence is perpetual

Unless otherwise stated for a particular product, your Single User Licence is perpetual.

This means that once you have purchased a product, you may continue using the materials covered by your licence indefinitely.

Your licence does not expire simply because you stop using the product, and there is no recurring fee for continued personal use unless otherwise stated.

This does not mean that Chess Cheat Sheets guarantees that a particular website, application, hosting service or online feature will remain available indefinitely. Digital products may occasionally be updated, replaced or discontinued. Your right to use materials that you have already received remains subject to these terms.

6. Intellectual property

All content supplied as part of Chess Cheat Sheets products remains protected by applicable intellectual property laws.

This includes, where applicable:

  • Written content

  • Chess puzzles and exercises

  • Training programmes and structures

  • PDFs and workbooks

  • Interactive applications

  • Digital software

  • Graphics and illustrations

  • Solutions and explanations

  • PGN files

  • Templates

  • Progress-tracking systems

  • Branding, logos and other proprietary materials

  • Locally downloadable 'apps'

Purchasing a product gives you permission to use these materials in accordance with this licence. It does not give you ownership of the underlying intellectual property.

7. Breach of these terms

Your licence is granted on the condition that you comply with these terms.

If you knowingly use, reproduce or distribute the materials outside the permissions granted by this licence, Chess Cheat Sheets may require you to stop the unauthorised use and, where appropriate, take further action to protect its intellectual property rights.

If you have unintentionally shared materials or are unsure whether a particular use is permitted, please contact us. We would much rather resolve the situation directly than have you worry about whether you are using the product correctly.

8. Want to use the materials with students?

If you are a chess coach, teacher, school, club or organisation and would like to provide Chess Cheat Sheets materials to multiple students, we offer separate licensing options designed for this purpose.

A commercial or Coach Licence may allow you to:

  • Provide materials directly to your students.

  • Use the resources as homework or supplementary training.

  • Print copies for your students.

  • Use the resources during lessons or coaching sessions.

  • Provide students with digital copies where permitted by the relevant licence.

The number of students and other permitted uses will depend on the licence purchased.
